Writing a novel or thinking about starting one soon? In this one-day workshop, Paul Park will talk about how to best organize your novel-writing process, including methods for planning story events, with techniques like scene-by-scene-breakdowns and detailed summaries. He will also discuss general concepts of novel structure, and strategies for plotting.
Park’s writing explores questions of narrative and existence, through the lenses of religion, spirituality, and alternate history. He is well known for the use of metafiction in his work, combining real and imagined sources to create layered stories.
Park is the author of a dozen novels in a variety of genres. Some of his notable works include All Those Vanished Engines, Celestis, and The Princess of Roumania series and The Starbridge Chronicles series. Most recently, his second collection, Other Stories, came out last year from PS Publishing. He has published short stories in Asimov’s, Interzone, and has been a finalist for two dozen or so awards including the World Fantasy, Nebula, and Locus Awards. He lives in Massachusetts.
Locus Writers Workshops: Locus has been co-running a writing workshop in Seattle around the Locus Awards Weekend for the past few years and is excited to bring the class to the Bay Area. Past instructors include Gail Carriger, Connie Willis, Stephen Graham Jones, Christopher Barzak, and Daryl Gregory.
